In Symmetry, two players take turns placing stones on a square board to create symmetrical patterns and gain territory. Players must also block their opponent from forming symmetrical areas. Only horizontal and vertical mirror symmetries count, not diagonal. The size of symmetrical squares can vary, and multiple areas can change color in a single move.
Who Is This Game For?
This game is designed specifically for two players who enjoy short, abstract strategy games. With a playing time of about five minutes, Symmetry is ideal for quick duels and suits players without extensive prior experience. Despite simple rules, it offers tactical depth, making it a light strategy game.
How It Works
Players alternate placing black or white stones on an NxN board. When a fully occupied square becomes horizontally or vertically mirror-symmetrical due to the last stone placed, it flips to the color of that stone. Diagonal symmetries do not count. Multiple symmetrical squares can change color in one turn. The player with the most stones of their color on the board at the end wins.
