What to Expect

You collectively shape humanity's technological path while competing in economy, science and influence. On a turn you place an action pawn to take an action, perform production (ore, population or trade) and can claim achievements. Technologies come in four levels and four types, forming a tech tree unique to each game. The game ends when a set number of communal end objectives are claimed.

Who Is This Game For?

A game for experienced players (ages 14+); complexity is above family level and a typical session is around 120 minutes. Players comfortable with engine-building and area-influence will get the most out of it.

How It Works

Core mechanics include Area Majority/Influence, Contracts, Events and End Game Bonuses alongside Tableau Building. Players place an action pawn on an empty action space, execute that action, then go through production (produce resources, grow population or trade). Actions unlock technologies across four tiers and build a personal tech tableau that expands production, movement and influence. Controlling systems and completing achievements score victory points.

What Makes It Special

Designed by Dennis K. Chan, Beyond the Sun ties civilization-style tech development to space exploration and tableau mechanics. It won the Meeples Choice Award in 2020 and was nominated for several Golden Geek and Cardboard Republic awards that year. The shared technology track shapes all players' options while individual choices determine scoring.
