It reads the EAN barcode on the box and looks the game up in the database. Very old editions or small publishers may lack a code; then the name search or manual entry helps.

Two people with separate accounts, one shared shelf: linked collections show both the same games, and on game night all games of the couple are on the ballot.

Only if you want them to. You share a collection with members of your group or create a public link that you can switch off any time. Without sharing, nobody sees your games.
