In Solenia, you navigate a world split into perpetual day and night hemispheres, delivering essential resources like gems, wood, and wheat. Each round, players place cards onto a 5x5 board to collect resources or fulfill delivery orders. Cards must be placed adjacent to the central airship or your existing cards. A unique board rotation changes day to night, influencing the strategic flow and requiring adaptive planning.
Who Is This Game For?
Solenia suits gamers with some experience, including families with children aged 10 and up. With a playtime around 45 minutes, it fits well into a game night with moderate complexity. Familiarity with hand management and modular boards helps but isn’t required as rules remain accessible.
How It Works
Each round, players play a card from their hand onto an empty spot on the modular 5x5 board. You choose to place on a production island to gain resources based on the card’s value or on a city to deliver required goods. Cards must be adjacent to the airship or your other cards. Playing a zero-value card moves the airship and flips a strip of the board, switching day and night sides and redistributing resources. This blends hand management, pick-up and deliver, and bias mechanics.
What Makes It Special
Designed by Sébastien Dujardin, Solenia was nominated for the prestigious 2019 As d'Or - Jeu de l'Année award. It uniquely combines a modular board with a day-night flip mechanic set in a floating island fantasy world. Its inclusion in the Solitaire Games family means it supports solo play, adding versatility.
