What to Expect

In Schummel Hummel, the goal is to get rid of all your cards before anyone else. Unlike most games, cheating is allowed: you can secretly discard cards by tossing them over your shoulder or hiding them. One player acts as the watchman, trying to catch cheaters. If caught, the cheater keeps their card, takes one from the watchman, and becomes the new watchman. You also play cards matching the top card on the pile and can use insect cards' special powers, like stealing grasshoppers from neighbors unnoticed.

Who Is This Game For?

Schummel Hummel is a light family card game for 3 to 5 players aged 7 and up. Its simple rules and fun cheating mechanic make it accessible for kids and casual players. With a short playtime of about 25 minutes, it fits well into quick game sessions without requiring prior experience.

How It Works

Players take turns playing cards that match the top card of the discard pile in some way. Cheating by secretly discarding cards is allowed, but the watchman tries to catch you. If caught, roles switch and penalties apply. Special insect cards grant unique abilities, such as stealing grasshoppers from neighbors, forcing them to draw extra cards. The game ends when a player discards all their cards.

What Makes It Special
