Start for freeWhat to Expect
You split into two teams that each try to communicate three-digit codes to teammates while preventing the opposing team from intercepting them. Each team privately displays numbered secret words; players give limited clues to indicate a numeric code and opponents attempt to deduce both the code and the hidden words. Rounds are short and the tension comes from giving informative but not revealing hints.
Who Is This Game For?
For groups of 3–8 players, recommended age 12+. Decrypto sits between party and lighter gateway/skillful deduction games: rules are easy to grasp but success requires quick verbal creativity and team coordination. Typical playtime is around 45 minutes.
How It Works
Each team has a screen showing numbered words. A clue-giver draws a code (three digits) and gives limited, targeted clues so teammates can guess the sequence; the opposing team listens and tries to crack your mapping. Core mechanics include Communication Limits, Targeted Clues, Paper-and-Pencil and Team-Based Game. Success and failures are tracked until a win or loss condition ends the match.
What Makes It Special
Designed by Thomas Dagenais-Lespérance. Decrypto emphasizes constrained communication as its central twist and blends word-guessing with espionage theme. It won the 2018 Cardboard Republic Socializer Laurel and earned multiple Golden Geek nominations, marking it as a notable party/deduction title.
