What to Expect

In TransAmerica, players build rail connections between five assigned cities across the USA. Players place rails starting adjacent to their stations, then can expand along connected networks. The goal is to be the first to connect all five cities in a continuous network. Strategic use of other players' tracks is key. The game ends when one player completes their route.

Who Is This Game For?

TransAmerica suits families and casual gamers aged 13 and up who want a quick and easy-to-learn game. Its simple mechanics allow new players to join without prior experience. With a 30-minute duration, it fits well into short game sessions.

How It Works

Each player has five cities to connect by placing one or two rails per turn. Initially, rails must be placed adjacent to your station, but once networks connect, rails can be placed along the combined network. The game uses Connections and Race mechanics to create a competitive race to complete routes, while Score-and-Reset Game manages the game flow until a winner emerges.

Designed by Franz-Benno Delonge, TransAmerica won the 2002 Japan Boardgame Prize Best Foreign Game for Beginners and was nominated for Spiel des Jahres 2002. Its blend of Connections and Race mechanics offers accessible strategic gameplay with family appeal.
