Players build tunnels on a hex grid mountain, establish stations, discover gem veins, collect and sell precious stones over three rounds. You bid for contracts and turn order, use action points to expand tracks, place stations and veins, and manage dynamite explosions affecting the board. The goal is to score the most points through smart routing and fulfilling contracts.
Who Is This Game For?
Cavum targets experienced gamers aged 12 and up who enjoy complex strategy games with about 120 minutes playtime. It requires patience and planning, making it less suitable for casual or family players. Prior exposure to worker placement or auction mechanics is helpful.
How It Works
Players use action points each turn to place tracks, stations, or gem veins. Turn order is determined through an auction using victory points. Network and route building connects stations to collect gems, fulfilling contracts for points. A Dutch auction lets players sell gems at varying prices each round, adding economic strategy.

Designed by renowned Michael Kiesling and Wolfgang Kramer, Cavum was nominated for the 2009 JoTa Best Heavy Board Game award.
