What to Expect

You control one of 14 asymmetric factions, each tied to a specific terrain, and terraform neighboring hexes to expand. The game is full-information with no luck and rewards long-term planning, area development and faction-specific abilities. You build and upgrade structures, advance in four religious cults and develop terraforming and shipping skills. Proximity to other factions provides power but complicates expansion.

Who Is This Game For?

Designed for experienced Eurogame players and strategists: Terra Mystica is complex and requires patience for long, evening-length sessions. Casual groups or inexperienced players will face a steep learning curve.

How It Works

Players take turns executing actions to develop buildings and change terrain, investing resources to upgrade structures. Core mechanics include Hexagon Grid, Chaining, Income and End Game Bonuses that shape interaction and long-term engines. Asymmetric faction powers and building upgrades create different strategic paths without dice or random events.

What Makes It Special

Designed by Helge Ostertag and Jens Drögemüller with art by Dennis Lohausen. Terra Mystica won the 2013 Deutscher Spiele Preis (Best Family/Adult Game, Winner) and received multiple nominations in 2012–2013. Its blend of asymmetric factions on a hex map is a hallmark of modern Euro design.
