In Starlord, you control starships in a sci-fi setting, rolling dice to move and battling to capture your opponent's home star. Move ships around orbit spaces, avoid obstacles, and destroy enemy ships by landing on them. Collect various types of cards on planets to build new starships. The game blends Area Movement, Dice Rolling, and Set Collection in a quick 60-minute duel.
Who Is This Game For?
Starlord is designed for two players aged 8 and up and is a medium complexity game. The 60-minute playtime suits game nights where players want a concise, strategic head-to-head without a steep learning curve. Prior experience with tactical board games is helpful but not mandatory.
How It Works
On your turn, you roll two dice and can move one ship per die or only one ship using a single die. Orbit spaces include obstacles you can’t occupy. Landing on an enemy ship’s space destroys it. Hyper-jump spaces let you quickly move between orbits. Planet spaces grant cards which you collect in sets to build new starships and strengthen your fleet.
What Makes It Special
Designed in 1977 by Lance Gutteridge, Tom Dalgliesh and others, Starlord is an early example of two-player sci-fi strategy games combining Area Movement and Set Collection. It belongs to the 'Players: Two-Player Only Games' category and balances luck from dice with tactical planning in a compact format.
