What to Expect

In Aether, players battle using the four classical elements—earth, air, water, and fire—to control mystical Aether tiles. You place element tiles and elementals on a modular hex board, balancing power gained from surrounding tiles while counter-elements reduce your influence. Victory goes to the player who controls the most Aether tiles by the end, scoring points also for unused elementals.

Who Is This Game For?

Aether is aimed at fans of abstract strategy games who appreciate medium-length, tactically deep play sessions. With a playing time around 45 minutes and recommended for ages 10+, it suits players comfortable with strategic planning and moderate complexity. It is not a light family game but rather a game for experienced strategy players.

How It Works

Players take turns placing element tiles on empty hex spaces on a modular board, optionally placing an elemental on the tile just placed. Elementals gain power from the tile beneath them and adjacent tiles, while counter-elements weaken their influence. Area majority around Aether tiles determines control. At game end, players score for controlled Aether tiles plus any unused elementals.
